Aiding Boston’s push to expand its police force and reduce reliance on individual age waivers, the Massachusetts House on Monday passed a bill to allow older applicants to enter the city’s police academy.
Currently, applicants must be 39 years old or younger on the date of the entrance examination to be eligible for the academy. The home rule petition approved by the House would give applicants an additional five years, allowing candidates to be up to 44 years old when they take the exam.
