DENVER (KDVR) — If you’ve ever been curious what Denver International Airport’s famously secretive tunnels look like, or are just tired of the concourse trains being the only way to get around the airport, you’re in luck.
Airport and city officials on Tuesday announced plans to construct pedestrian walkways using the existing tunnel system to connect the airport’s three concourses, marking a major upgrade to solve one of the most heated topics at the airport.
DIA’s underground concourse trains have been the only way to get between Concourses A, B and C. Even though officials say they’ve invested millions into the train system, the trains have frequently become subject of debate as several power outages over the years shut off the trains, temporarily stranding people in the concourses and causing massive delays and chaos.
“This is a big win for Denver’s travelers and for our entire community,” Denver Mayor Mike Johnston said in a press release. “We’ve heard loud and clear that easier, more reliable ways to move between concourses has been a top priority for people traveling in and out of DEN. These new pedestrian walkways would deliver on that – giving folks more flexibility while we continue building one of the best-connected airports in the world. And who knows… maybe along the way, travelers will finally get a closer look at the underground tunnels and decide for themselves what’s fact and what’s fiction.”…
