Third man arrested in scam that cost Lafayette’s Chamber of Commerce and its former director over $500K

A Florida man was arrested Monday in connection with a 2023 scam that cost Lafayette’s Chamber of Commerce and its former executive director over $500,000, and the U.S. Treasury about $343,000. Investigators believe the man — the third person to be arrested in connection with the scam — was “in the upper rank of the crime.”

Terry Pugh, 27, faces charges of cybercrime, criminal impersonation and theft between $100,000 and $1 million, according to an arrest affidavit.

Two men pleaded guilty to money laundering for their role in the scam earlier this year and were sentenced to 10 years of probation each. Other charges were dropped as part of plea agreements, according to online court records.
