As bears have started to get more active in recent weeks, several outdoor recreation impacts have been seen around the state of Colorado. From a campground that recently banned tent camping to a park that was shut down due to bear aggression, wildlife can tend to throw a curveball when it comes to making summer plans.
The more recent impact – the park closure – is impacting some of those seeking to get outside in Jefferson County. Per officials, Apex Park, located just south of downtown Golden, has been temporarily closed to visitors until further notice due to “aggressive bear activity” in the area. At this time, the closure is meant to protect the public while Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials assess the situation and monitor conditions.
Officials weren’t specific when it came to what type of aggressive behavior has been present, but it apparently hits a high enough threshold to shut down the 797.6 acres of land that make up the park, including 10.1 miles of trails.
