Brighton police seize large capacity magazine, drugs and stolen firearm

DENVER (KDVR) — Officers in Brighton say proactive patrols on June 21 led to felony gun charges after a traffic stop.

The Brighton Police Department reported that officers were conducting “proactive patrols” along Highway 85 by the 235-mile marker when they spotted a vehicle going nearly 20 mph below the speed limit around 10:30 p.m.

The driver allegedly activated the hazard lights, pulled onto the shoulder as officers stopped right behind. Officers said they directed the vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old man with a 24-year-old passenger, to a nearby McDonald’s parking lot.

According to the release, the vehicle’s license plates belonged to another car, and the two men exited the vehicle and consented to a search once officers observed drug paraphernalia inside.

Police said the search led to the following seizures:

  • Two guns, one of which was stolen
  • Narcotics
  • 50-round large-capacity magazine
  • A loaded magazine in the driver’s possession
