A Frederick police officer and Longmont SWAT member will not face criminal charges for fatally shooting a woman in a Longmont home who pointed a gun at officers in March, the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday. Officers had responded to the home after the woman reportedly made suicidal statements.
Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty determined that Frederick Sgt. Tyler Farson was justified in shooting 31-year-old Ashlyn Brownell, according to a Thursday news release. In addition to Longmont police, Longmont SWAT has members from the Frederick and Mead police departments.
Farson shot Brownell twice after she opened her garage in the 1500 block of East Third Avenue, holding a gun pointed at officers, after officers had tried to convince her to drop her gun and come out of the home. Brownell was taken to a hospital, where she later died…
