Lafayette officials ironing out potential tax ballot measure

Lafayette officials are considering a potential November ballot measure that would ask voters to extend a property tax to support the Great Outdoors Water Park and the LaMont Does Park pool ahead of the current tax expiring at the end of this year.

The Great Outdoors Water Park, completed in 2017, was funded through what’s called a general obligation bond, for $5.5 million, approved by voters in 2014. The debt has since been repaid through a property tax.

City officials say the tax is set to expire at the end of 2026, but ongoing operating and maintenance costs at the water park have risen. The original LaMont Does Park pool, now more than 50 years old, also requires increasingly frequent and costly repairs, according to a staff memo to the City Council…
