More than 100 people gathered at the Lafayette YMCA on Tuesday to celebrate the Road of Remembrance, a stretch of Arapahoe Road honoring veterans of World War I that state lawmakers formally designated this year, over a century after the war’s end.
In the 1920s, veterans and civic organizations began pushing for a memorial highway along Arapahoe from the former Lincoln Highway to Boulder, said Bill Meyer, former president of the Boulder Rotary Club and a member of what he called the “Road of Remembrance Committee.”
