LONGMONT, CO — A Colorado dog is recovering after being found abandoned in a Longmont homeowner’s backyard with pajama pants wrapped around her head and a severe wound that reached her skull. The black dog, later named Starry, was rushed for veterinary care after the homeowner uncovered the injury and called law enforcement.
Animal control officers and shelter staff say the focus now is on learning what happened to the dog and identifying the man who was last seen walking with her before she was left behind. The Longmont Humane Society says Starry has undergone surgery and is eating, walking on a leash and showing a friendly, curious demeanor despite the trauma.
Homeowner finds dog hidden under clothing in backyard
The discovery happened when the Longmont homeowner found the dog alone in the yard and removed the clothing wrapped around her head. That is when she saw the depth of the wound and understood the animal needed urgent help.
The homeowner, who spoke with CBS Colorado anonymously, said she immediately took the dog to a veterinarian and contacted police.
