Boulder Valley announces preschool locations following school closure decision

Broomfield’s Birch Elementary will continue to offer preschool classes as the K-5 school closes and students are consolidated at nearby Kohl Elementary, Boulder Valley officials recently announced.

The school district released its preschool locations for next fall last week, with a goal of helping parents make school decisions following a Sept. 22 vote to close four schools, reconfigure two and relocate two. Three parents last week also filed a lawsuit and asked for a temporary injunction, claiming the development of the closures plan violated Colorado’s Open Meetings Law.

Birch will offer half day and full day preschool options. District officials said they’re reviewing spaces inside and outside Birch to determine if adjustments are needed. The district estimates it may need to spend $350,000 to $800,000 on building renovations at Birch to accommodate an expended preschool program…
