Teacher concerned for students who come ‘from less stable places’ amid Broomfield’s possible Centennial Elementary closure

For Centennial Elementary in Broomfield, the school district’s proposed plan for consolidation could mean the end of a school with a tight-knit culture and a change that could leave some students without the supports they’ve come to know.

Citing declining student enrollment, Adams 12 Five Star Schools has proposed closing six schools in the district that includes communities in Federal Heights, Westminster, Broomfield, Northglenn and Thornton. Included in those changes could be the closure of Centennial Elementary School in eastern Broomfield.

“This community has been really close to each other — I can’t explain it, how you feel inside the school, how you feel around the school. It’s just different,” said Yadis Manz, whose son is in fifth grade at Centennial. Although her son will enter middle school next year, Manz said she’s worried about where her older daughter’s children will go to school…
