‘We will catch you’: Wheat Ridge police warn shoplifters after recent arrest

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. ( KDVR ) — Wheat Ridge police are warning criminals that they are keeping a watchful eye on shoplifters with one simple message, “We will catch you.”

The Wheat Ridge Police Department shared a new video of an officer arresting a shoplifting suspect. Their goal is to send a warning to those behind organized theft.

“Shoplifting, we’re noticing, is becoming a little bit more of a trend. There are some of those one-off situations where there is one individual who is going in and grabbing whatever they can off of the shelves, but we are seeing it on a larger scale, not just in Wheat Ridge but up and down the Front Range,” said Alex Rose, Wheat Ridge’s Public Information Officer.

These shoplifters are often repeat offenders. The suspect arrested in the video had multiple warrants out for his arrest.

Rose said these repeat offenders are more often than not part of a larger scheme.

“These people are selling this stuff off Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for markup prices, and so criminals are getting smarter and they’re realizing there’s money to be had doing this type of organized retail theft,” Rose said.
