There have been six deaths since 2018 in jumps operated by Mile-Hi Skydiving
A Colorado man who died in a skydiving accident Saturday has been identified as 36-year-old Gregory Coates, the Boulder County Coroner’s office said.
Police and first responders responded at 3:37 p.m. Saturday to reports of the death at the Vance Brand Municipal Airport, where Mile-Hi Skydiving operates.
Longmont police spokesperson Robin Ericson said in a news release that Coates was wearing a wingsuit, and that neither his primary nor reserve chute deployed during his jump.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is spearheading the lead investigation, which is assisted by the Longhorn Police Department.
There were 20 skydiving deaths in 2022, according to the United States Parachute Association . The 2023 data hasn’t been released yet but the association estimates there were 3.9 million skydiving jumps last year.
There have been six deaths associated with Mile-Hi Skydiving since 2018, the Longmont Times-Call reported.
