Snow is forecasted for the coming weekend, and the Town has released its Snow Removal and Ice Control Plan. The plan’s goal is to maintain safe travel routes during winter weather. The Town uses both contractors and staff for snow removal, aiming to meet the plan’s standards. During storms, the focus is on clearing Priority 1 and 2 streets, with crews plowing and applying de-icing materials.

The aim is to keep two-way traffic on these roads, but parked cars can affect plowing widths. Depending on the snowfall severity, crews may also plow and de-ice Priority 3 streets during the storm. If conditions don’t allow for plowing during the storm, these streets will be plowed afterward. On Priority 3 streets, crews will first open a single lane and then two lanes after the storm.

Parked cars can obstruct the crews’ ability to open two lanes, as snow plow trucks need to stay 2 to 4 feet away from parked cars to avoid pushing snow and ice onto vehicles. Priority 4 streets, typically streets with fewer homes and cul-de-sacs, will only be plowed if snow accumulations require it and after the storm has ended. The aim for these streets is to open a single lane. Deicing material is typically not used on Priority 4 streets, but may be used if necessary.
