Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders won’t be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. He decided to return to school for his final season, fine-tuning his draft stock and playing an additional season under his father, head coach and NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
Growing up in the shadow of a Hall of Famer certainly has its perks, but it has also forged a path with a brand of adversity his collegiate counterparts can’t identify with.
Sanders compared himself to the quarterbacks from this year’s class, crediting his journey as a reason why he’s better than all of them.
“I’m biased, but I don’t see a quarterback that’s better than me,” Sanders said . “I don’t see a QB that went through as much adversity as me, that had four different offensive coordinators in four years. Coming from an HBCU, coming to a Power Five, having real pressure on me.”
Sanders’ statistical profile has some exciting aspects to it. He threw just three interceptions and posted the fifth-best turnover-worthy play rate among qualified college passers. Only six quarterbacks graded out better on passes, per Pro Football Focus’ grading.
