Man accused of killing woman whose body was found in river almost 2 years ago

LOVELAND, Colo. — Law enforcement authorities apprehended a suspect this week, over a year after the alleged homicide of a woman whose body was discovered near a park.

On Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, just after 11 a.m., officers from the Loveland Police Department responded to a location near Barnes Park, where they discovered the lifeless body of 49-year-old Chantell Wilkes in the river. Police confirmed that Wilkes had been the victim of a homicide.

On Wednesday, Feb. 28, shortly after 3:30 p.m., authorities issued a no-bond warrant for 45-year-old Asa Peck in connection with the woman’s death. Members of the Community Impact Unit located and arrested Peck in the vicinity of North Garfield Avenue and West 4th Street at approximately 5:30 p.m. on the same day.

Peck was subsequently booked into the Larimer County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder and is currently being held on a $2 million bond.

Loveland Police Chief Tim Doran remarked, “I am incredibly proud of the diligence and commitment from our Criminal Investigation Division in solving this case. While we understand this will not take away the pain Chantell’s family and friends are feeling, we are hopeful the progress in this case will bring her loved ones some peace.”
