Remarkable Women: Local nurse establishes the Denver American Indian Festival

DENVER ( KDVR ) — At 81 years old, Lynne Holman has a lot to be proud of. She has been an accomplished occupational nurse in the high country for many years and is a beacon of change for the Native American community.

Holman is currently spending time in the hospital, but not for her long accomplished career as a nurse.

“They accidentally discovered that I have breast cancer in November. I went to St. Anthony North to get a CAT Scan on my knee, and the machine picked up a tumor in my right breast, so I’ve had 33 radiation treatments,” said Holman.

Holman’s fight has a positive outlook. She is now done with her radiation treatments and will take medication and have routine mammograms to make sure all looks good.

Holman is no stranger to hospitals; she started her nursing career at age 10.

“One of the routes that my school bus took was right by the hospital, so one night I walked in and announced I wanted a job. So, I kept doing that and one day the hostess called my mother and asked her to come in to talk to her and they decided I could be a junior candy striper!” said Holman.
