Denver company giving low-income moms cash for 15 months

DENVER (KDVR) — A local CEO is on a mission to make life better for low-income moms. Katherine Gold is taking a new yet simple approach to make a difference in the lives of women she’s never met.

Gold owns and operates Goldbug , based in Denver. It’s the largest distributor of infant and children’s accessories in the U.S.

The success of the business creates an opportunity for Gold to give back. It’s part of the legacy Gold said her father, who founded the company in 1968, left behind.

“I want to just make a difference now. When you understand there’s sort of a crisis happening in your backyard, you feel like, OK, if I can make a difference, let’s just do it,” Gold said.

The crisis she referred to is the recent rise in the maternal mortality rate in the U.S. Numbers released last year showed a 40% jump from 2020 to 2021 in the U.S., according to data from the National Vital Statistics System.

“I just felt incensed, I just felt — I still do — this sort of moral imperative to really do something about it,” Gold said.
