Man, teen arrested in deadly Denver shooting

DENVER ( KDVR ) — A 31-year-old and a 16-year-old have been arrested on first-degree murder charges in connection to a deadly shooting in west Denver.

On Saturday, June 8, at 6:26 p.m., Denver Police Department officers were called to the 500 block of North Sheridan Boulevard on reports of a shooting. The area is in the Barnum West neighborhood.

When officers arrived, they found Manuel Luque Quintana, 29, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead .

Police said a female victim also sustained gunshot wounds and walked away from the scene. She was found feet away on West 5th Avenue and Zenobia Street where she was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation, Denver police said a suspect got out of the passenger side of a car and shot the man and woman who were sitting in a parked car.

Police said they used evidence, automated license plate readers and tips from the community to identify the suspects as Simon Eugene Elijah Gurule, 31, and a 16-year-old male. Because of the juvenile’s age, their name and photo will not be released by police.
