Community help needed to keep dogs cool at a Fort Lupton animal rescue

FORT LUPTON, Colo. (KDVR) — Temperatures hit triple digits earlier this week, but people are not the only ones sweating. Dogs are feeling the heat too, and one rescue could use your help keeping them cool.

Soul Dog Rescue in Fort Lupton takes in dogs rescued by animal control on reservations near the Four Corners.

“We bring them here, we get them their vaccines, we get them fixed and we also get them chipped,” said Deja Navarro, part of the kennel staff at Soul Dog.

Many spend the day outside, splashing in kiddie pools or resting under shaded tarps. Navarro hopes, however, to find a more permanent solution.

“We do have some little tricksters that like to get up there and they pull those tarps down, and we have to go get some new ones and put them back up,” Navarro said.

Stephanie Keltner just began as a volunteer only a week ago.

“They have an incredible network of volunteers, veterinary staff,” she said.

She immediately wanted to find a way to help beyond her volunteer efforts. Keltner set up a GoFundMe, asking for the community’s help to purchase things like sturdier awnings.
