Suspected DUI driver identified in crash that killed Golden officer

DENVER ( KDVR ) — A suspect allegedly involved in a Wednesday night crash that killed a Golden police officer and injured another has been identified.

On Thursday morning, the Colorado State Patrol identified the suspect as 43-year-old Stephen Robert Geer. He was arrested on Wednesday.

Geer was arrested on the following charges:

  • Vehicular homicide while driving under the influence of alcohol or one or more drugs or both. Such conduct was the proximate cause of a death to another person.
  • Two counts of vehicular assault while driving under the influence of alcohol or one or more drugs or both. Such conduct was the proximate cause of a death to another person.
  • Failure to exercise due care when approaching a stationary vehicle resulting in death – Move Over Law.
  • Drove vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs or both.

During Geer’s arrest, he refused a blood or breath test but did do a roadside test.
