Boulder to be wary of increased mountain lion activity during fall and winter

DENVER (KDVR) — Residents and visitors in Boulder are advised to keep an eye on increased mountain lion activity as Colorado heads into late fall and winter the city announced in a press release.

An urban wildlife coordinator stated that mountain lions have existed in the area for thousands of years and that they are territorial and solitary creatures.

If a mountain lion establishes a territory, it is likely the only mountain lion in the area. The wildlife coordinator also said that when mountain lions leave a territory, other mountain lions will attempt to take it over which creates an issue when considering removing the animal from an area.

Mountain lions will be removed or relocated if they exhibit aggressive behavior toward humans but the wildlife coordinator stated that there is more focus on educating the community about the steps to take when encountering a mountain lion and tips to keep mountain lions out of your area.
