As the winter approaches, Boulder warns that mountain lion activity is expected to increase near the town and populated areas during the colder months.
In a press release, the city encourages community members to take precautions and be prepared if they encounter a mountain lion. If you do encounter a mountain lion, do not approach it. Talk to the lion calmly and firmly, and back away slowly if you can do so safely. Face the lion and stand upright, and do all you can to appear larger by raising your arms and opening your jacket.
The press release also lists some ways you can discourage mountain lions from visiting your property. You should install outdoor lighting, not leave pets outside unattended, supervise children when outdoors, and remove access to potential food sources.
