No. 14 WVU lets fourth-quarter lead slip in loss to Colorado

The Mountaineers led for three quarters, but their deficiencies in the final quarter Saturday night at Colorado led to their downfall in their 2024-25 Big 12 opener.

No. 14 WVU (10-2, 0-1 Big 12) fell 65-60 to Colorado (10-2, 1-0 Big 12) Saturday night at the CU Events Center in Boulder, Colorado.

WVU and Colorado traded baskets for most of the first quarter, but the Mountaineers took a lead later in the period and led for the rest of the first half. WVU finished the first quarter on a 9-0 run that included a four-and-a-half minute scoring drought from the Buffaloes.

The Mountaineers led 16-9 at the end of the first quarter. Six of the seven WVU players that earned minutes in the opening quarter recorded points.

In the second quarter, it was WVU who faced scoring troubles as the clock ticked down. The Mountaineers did not make a field goal in the final three minutes and forty five seconds of the first half, but they still carried a 28-25 lead into the halftime locker room.

Veteran WVU guard Jordan Harrison scored 12 of WVU’s 28 first-half points. Colorado guard Frida Formann recorded 15 of Colorado’s 25 points in the first half.
