2 arrested for celebratory gunfire in Boulder

DENVER (KDVR) — Boulder police were called to shut down some disorderly celebrations after midnight on New Year’s Day, the agency reported Wednesday.

The Boulder Police Department said the second call it received in 2025 was for people reportedly shooting guns in a large open field near Highway 119. After gathering information, officers found the suspects at a nearby residence.

According to the agency, a man and a woman are suspected of using a rifle and a handgun to fire over 30 rounds.

Police said they did not find anyone with injuries, nor any property damage, but arrested the suspects on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct/discharge of a firearm, and prohibited use of a weapon. Illegal discharge of a firearm , under Colorado law, is defined as “knowingly or recklessly discharg(ing) a firearm into any dwelling or any other building or occupied structure, or into any motor vehicle occupied by any person.”
