CO snowplow driver who stopped suspect on I-70: ‘Right place at the right time’

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. — A driver behind the wheel of one of three snowplows Thursday night that helped stop a fleeing burglary suspect on Interstate 70 said the trio were simply at the “right place at the right time.”

Around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, an Idaho Springs police officer had been on eastbound I-70 near milemarker 241 when he saw a black Hyundai Accent on the road with a broken taillight that had been reported stolen from Northglenn. He also found that it was connected with a robbery and evading case in Lakewood from earlier in the week, the Idaho Springs Police Department said.

The officer tried to pull the suspect over, but the driver did not stop, the police department said.

Meanwhile, snowplow drivers with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) were busy with operations around Georgetown, Idaho Springs and Floyd Hill.

Michael Zamore, a supervisor with CDOT, explained that he was headed eastbound and saw a vehicle, trailed by several police cars with sirens, getting on the highway near the Two Bears restaurant, around where I-70 and Highway 6 meet.
