Denver hopes to curb scrap metal thefts with new ordinance

DENVER — After seeing so much success in the regulation of catalytic converter sales, Denver city officials want to pass a similar ordinance in hopes of curbing scrap metal thefts across the city.

Denver City Councilman Darrell Watson introduced the proposed ordinance in response to increasing thefts that have affected local businesses and public infrastructure.

“We know that [catalytic converter thefts] decreased by 95%,” Watson said. “We expect the same to be with scrap metals.”…
