Town of Lyons beginning restoration process after Stone Canyon fire

LYONS, Colo. (KDVR) — After a nearly nine-month-long investigation, the Boulder County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died in the Stone Canyon fire last summer.

The remains of Kevin James Tracy, 74, were found in a home in Boulder County just outside of Lyons. The fire burned more than 1,500 acres and destroyed five homes back in July 2024. Investigators say the fire originated from Tracy’s property.

Stone Canyon Fire: 100% contained, evacuations lifted

Town leaders say 13 properties lost their woods to the fire.

“Eight of them got seeding help from Lyon’s garden club. Four of them wanted help actually planting trees, and they qualified for free trees with the Colorado Forest Service Reforestation process,” said Robyn Sloan, LEAF Board Vice President. “So, we ordered 2,200 trees last fall, but to have four to five properties plant these trees was just astronomical as far as workload. We asked the Lyons volunteers, ‘Can you organize two Saturdays to help us get the trees into the ground?’ And that’s what came about. The first one was last Saturday. We had 40 signed up and ended up with 70 volunteers. We planted 1,200 trees, we have another 1,000 to plant this Saturday. So we have awesome community support.”…
