A list of springtime events in Colorado would not be complete without mentioning Estes Park’s huge rubber duck race. For over 30 years they’ve had tons of fun and raised lots of money.

I honestly think that this something I’ve been missing out on; a spring day in Estes, with people smiling, kids playing, and ducks floating down the river. What’s wrong with me? Hopefully this year, I’ll be there.
Roughly 100 non-profits in the Estes Park area are vying to have ducks adopted in their honor in 2025.
Estes Park seems to have been on the cutting edge of the rubber duck race phenomenon, as they didn’t really start taking off until the 1990s. Having had their first race in 1989, I’m guessing a lot of other races now look towards theirs for inspiration.
The Rotary Club of Estes Park has raised over $3 million for local charities around Estes with The Great Estes Park Duck Race. With costs going up and budgets being squeezed tighter and tighter, this event gets more important, as it gets more fun, every year.
The Great Estes Park Duck Race – May 3, 2025
Not only is there the shot at winning the $10,000 cash grand prize with Estes’ race, they have over 400 other prizes for 2025 for the top finishers. There will be four qualifying races with 2,000-3,000 ducks in each. The first 25 from each race will move on to the finals, and that $10,000 grand prize for 1st place.

Duck adoptions for 2025 are only $25, with all but $2 going to the charity that you’ve chosen to help. If you adopt five ducks, they’ll give a sixth for free – one more shot at that $10,000…
