Denver residents might want to keep an eye on the sky today, as the National Weather Service (NWS) is signaling a chance of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon with cloud coverage increasing, and temperatures expected to peak around a breezy 76 degrees.
While today’s gusts could hit as high as 34 mph, the National Weather Service has also warned that the Northeast plains could experience damaging winds, potentially reaching up to 65 mph. A few severe thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and evening over portions of the northeast plains, stated the National Weather Service in its hazardous weather outlook. The good news, however, is that spotter activation will not be needed, but residents are encouraged to report any occurrences of strong winds.
Tonight, the chance of showers drops off before midnight with the breeziness continuing as winds shift from northwest to west at 18 to 23 mph before calming down to between 7 and 12 mph. Forecasts predict a mostly clear night with a low around 46 degrees and gusts up to 34 mph still possible.
