Denver Zoo closing early Saturday due to threat of teen ‘takeover’ in City Park

DENVER (KDVR) – In an unusual move, the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance will close early Saturday due to safety concerns.

“The Denver Police Department made us aware of an event happening tomorrow afternoon in City Park, which is being referred to as the ‘City Park takeover, ’” zoo spokesman Jake Kubie said.

The zoo plans to open at 7:30 a.m., which is earlier than normal. It will close at 1 p.m. instead of 8 p.m.

“We’re an 80-acre campus right in the middle of City Park, right in the middle of Denver, with almost two million visitors each year, 2,500 wild animals. Safety is our top priority,” Kubie said. “Hopefully, this is just an overreaction.”…
