Boulder County Drug Ring Leader Carlos Ytuarte-Quinones Sentenced to 51 Years in Prison

A major drug trafficking operation in Boulder County has come to a culmination with the sentencing of its leader, Carlos Ytuarte-Quinones, to a substantial 51 years in prison. According to Boulder County, Ytuarte-Quinones, along with 15 others, were swept up in a grand jury indictment spurred by a detailed four-month investigation led by the Boulder County Drug Task Force (BCDTF). The sentencing delivered today reflects the severity and breadth of the crimes that included a vast array of drug distribution charges and plans for violent crimes.

Following the comprehensive work by the BCDTF, close to 30 pounds of fentanyl, worth approximately $500,000, were seized. Alongside this, 25 pounds of methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine also fell into the law enforcement’s dragnet. The accused faced a tally of charges ranging from violating the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA) to conspiracy involving kidnapping and robbery. While attempting to bring the drug ring to justice, the court dished out various sentences to the co-defendants, including one who remains at large.

The prosecution in Boulder County pursued the leaders of the narcotics enterprise with determined fervor, securing convictions not only for drug-related offenses but also for Attempted First Degree Kidnapping.
