Westminster police officer started career by receiving a traffic ticket

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (KDVR) — Investigator Heather Wood is not a woman of many words, but she is a police officer of many accomplishments.

“I’m currently the training coordinator. I help coordinate all the internal and external training.  I keep track of all of our training requirements for POST,” she said.

But how Wood was introduced to the world of law enforcement is not what you would call your typical route.

“I was working at Water World at the time as a lifeguard, and coming home on a break and got pulled over by one of our officers and got a speeding ticket. When I came in to pay that, I asked about doing a ride along and the lady that I did the ride-along with was in charge of our explorer program, so I ended up joining. Thirty-five years later, here I am still,” said Wood…
