Ground stop issued for Denver Airport as more than 800 flights delayed amid severe weather

All flights have been halted at Denver International Airport on Sunday afternoon after severe thunderstorms moved into the region causing a flurry of delays and cancelations.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the ground stop will last until 5 p..m. local time, when the weather is expected to improve. FAA officials told CBS News there is a 30-60% chance the stop could be extended depending on conditions.

Arrivals to the airport are delayed an average of 30 minutes and are increasing. According to FlightAware, 809 flights have been delayed and 21 cancelled so far today at Denver International Airport.

Sunday’s ground stop in Denver comes less than a week after United Airlines was forced to ground all flights national wide due to a techical issue, causing hundreds of delays and cancelations…
