TGTHR closing Boulder youth residential facility Chase House

TGTHR’s homeless youth residential treatment program, Chase House, the only one in Boulder County, will close Sept. 19, only months after the organization suspended operations at Boulder’s only youth homeless shelter.

The nonprofit came to this decision after months of deliberation, and it was ultimately made because of financial constraints, TGTHR CEO Annie Bacci said. Chase House served youths ages 12-18 years and provided therapy and support for at-risk youths, and had eight beds.

Before 2020, Chase House could accept residents based on referrals such as foster care placements. But Bacci said that federal policies forced TGTHR’s hand to reshape its work at the Chase House. One such policy was the 2018 Families First Prevention Services Act, or FFPSA, which essentially upended the foster care system and made it easier for children in troubled homes to stay with their families…
