Residents of Louisville’s historic Little Italy neighborhood are demanding changes to plans for a new development in their back yard, as discussions with the developer reignite ahead of a city Planning Commission hearing tentatively slated for early October.
That public meeting would mark the second round of commission reviews for the Coal Creek Village development, a proposed mixed-use residential and commercial project on a piece of land east of the railroad tracks and southwest of the South Boulder and Courtesy roads intersection.
The Little Italy neighborhood — known for its high concentration of Italian families, according to the Louisville Historical Museum, in the 1900s — sits just south of the project site. Little Italy is between Courtesy Road to the east and the railroad track to the west, with Harper and Griffith streets running east and west through the neighborhood and Front and Cannon streets running north and south.
