Man dies after driving into a tree in Coal Creek community

A man died today after driving into a tree near Colo. 72 and Hummingbird Lane in the community of Coal Creek, southwest of Boulder.

The 74-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Sherri Mendez. A helicopter was initially called to respond to the crash, but because the driver was already dead, they were not transported, Mendez said.
