Commerce City to Cleanup Encampment at 6000 Dexter Street Over Health Concerns, Assists Residents with Property Retrieval

Commerce City officials have announced a planned clean-up of the encampment area at 6000 Dexter Street, citing health and environmental concerns. The official notice posted by the City of Commerce City claims the accumulation of trash, hazardous materials, and other harmful activities necessitates the intervention.

Those currently residing in the area have been given until October 9 to vacate, before the scheduled cleaning between October 10 and 15. While destined to collect trash and biohazards, the city is also responsible for storing important personal belongings of the encampment’s residents. According to the City of Commerce City, items like identification cards, birth certificates, and other valuable documents will be held for 30 days. Personal possessions that pose a threat to public health or safety, however, will not be collected.

In efforts to assist those displaced, the City has arranged for personal property to be reclaimed by appointment with CCPD Property and Evidence at 303-289-3657, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
