The Boulder Police Department (BPD) apprehended a drunk driver on Tuesday afternoon after multiple calls about his erratic and reckless behavior. After 1 p.m., the BPD received a call saying a man was driving recklessly and yelling at people near 20th and Broadway. Another call came alleging the driver hit another vehicle and fled the scene. One of the callers said that the driver was drinking from a beer bottle while driving.
BPD officers began searching the area for the driver and received another call saying a car almost hit a cyclist while driving on a bike path. Officer Baddley found the vehicle shortly after on Baseline Road and was able to coordinate with Officer West to safely stop the driver. Officers smelled alcohol on the breath of the suspect and his blood alcohol level was more than two times the legal limit.
“We’re glad this incident didn’t have a worse outcome as it easily could have,” the BPD wrote on Facebook. “There’s no excuse to drive impaired. You risk the lives of yourself and everyone around you. Our officers have stepped up their efforts to find impaired drivers and have made more DUI arrests so far this year than previous years due to a variety of factors. It’s sad that one of those factors is that some people think it’s okay to drink and drive. It. Is. Not. We will find and arrest you.”…
