Boulder PD Drone Helps Catch Suspect Wielding Machete, Dressed as “90s Era Backstreet Boy”

The Boulder Police Department (BPD) shared a drone video on October 16, which showed a felony menacing suspect wearing all white and carrying a red machete in an incident that occurred on October 14. A BPD Facebook post described the man as being “dressed not unlike a 90s era Backstreet Boy.”

The suspect was easy to spot by the BPD drone team because of the fully-white outfit and bright red machete, according to officials. The BPD had received a call on October 14 about the man swinging a red machete, but the suspect fled the scene. BPD deployed the drone, Air 1, to find the suspect.

Air 1 could see the suspect fleeing through the backyards of nearby apartment complexes, to which on-the-ground officers were notified. The drone also captured footage of the suspect stealing a bicycle shortly before officers were able to detain him. Officers Castro, Burton, and Deblasi cornered the suspect near a culvert at 30th and Mapleton. He was safely taken into custody and booked into the Boulder County Jail on charges of felony menacing, theft, and obstructing a police officer…
