Boulder Fortifies Against Wildfires with Cross-Boundary Mitigation Efforts Fueled by County Grant

The City of Boulder is battening down the hatches against the threat of wildfires, rolling out a collaborative scheme to bolster the community’s defenses. Thanks to a strategic boost from Boulder County in the shape of a Strategic Fuels Mitigation Grant (SFMG), the city is ready to undertake a comprehensive three-year project to tame wildfire risks in the Wonderland Lake vicinity, as it was announced by the City of Boulder.

Starting this winter, the funding will enable a combination of tactics from cattle grazing to strategic mowing to be deployed not only on public lands but on private ones too, tying the bow on community-level wildfire mitigation. “This project represents a true cross-boundary approach that unites a full spectrum of wildfire mitigation strategies into one coordinated effort,” Paul Dennison, Wildland Fire Senior Program Manager with the City of Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks, told the City of Boulder.
