On November 4, 2025, the first BoulderMOD duplex was placed on its permanent foundation at the Ponderosa community in North Boulder. This delivery is part of the BoulderMOD initiative and the City of Boulder’s efforts to increase affordable homeownership. The modular duplex is the first of its kind at Ponderosa, a community that has seen affordable housing and infrastructure projects since the city bought the mobile home park in 2017.
BoulderMOD is a modular housing factory formed by the City of Boulder, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, and the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD). The factory builds energy-efficient, permanently affordable homes. This supports Boulder’s goal to make 15% of all homes in the city affordable for low-, moderate-, and middle-income households by 2035. From 1992 to 2024, Boulder increased its permanently affordable homes from 981 to 4,098, mostly rentals. BoulderMOD aims to add more affordable homeownership options.
The 31,000-square-foot BoulderMOD facility has nine workstations where volunteers, Habitat staff, and BVSD students assemble homes. This approach reduces waste and construction time.
