Commercial area in Lafayette could be a new home for historic WWI pillars

The World War I memorial pillars that flank Arapahoe Road at the intersection of U.S. 287 could finally have a new home after years of discussion. A plan is underway to relocate the two Road of Remembrance gateway pillars to a parcel on the southwest corner of 95th Street and Arapahoe Road, on property tied to the Atlas Valley commercial area in Lafayette.

The pillars, built in the early 1900’s, serve as a memorial to Boulder County soldiers who served in World War I.

In November 2021, the Colorado Department of Transportation determined the pillars’ structural integrity had been compromised following major construction projects at the intersection.
