Boulder family said scammer copied fundraiser meant for father’s funeral

BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) — A Boulder family said a scammer copied their online fundraiser that was created to help pay for their father’s funeral expenses, and despite reporting it, they haven’t been able to get the fraudulent page taken down.

Andre and Christine Karkamaz said their father, Nabil Karkamaz, 69, died earlier this month after a battle with cancer. Describing him as generous, caring and well-loved, the family created a GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs.

“He’s just the best,” Christine said. “It’s really hard because without him, it’s like more than half of me is gone.”

The family hoped community members who knew their father would help them honor him.

“To get him a beautiful headstone,” Andre said. “We feel like the community would really feel this loss and would want to visit him.”…
