Boulder County Approves $850K Emergency Funding for Food Assistance

The Boulder County Commissioners approved an $850,000 emergency contract with Community Food Share on Thursday, which aims to support residents affected by the recent federal government shutdown, which temporarily suspended federal food assistance programs in November.

The one-time contract, approved on November 13 and running through February 13, 2026, is designed to strengthen local food security while Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits remained paused.

Under the agreement, Community Food Share will receive $650,000 to cover food purchases and transportation costs. The remaining $200,000 will fund the nonprofit’s Culturally Celebrated Sponsorship program, which helps local food banks purchase grocery items directly from small, local vendors.
