Wildfire sparks on Boulder mountainside near area where safety concerns have already limited access

Some residents of the Boulder area looked up to see a fire burning on the hillside on November 18, accompanied by the smell of smoke lingering in the air.

Dubbed the Realization Fire, the blaze was burning on Flagstaff Mountain, off Chapman Road between Flagstaff Road and Boulder Canyon Drive. With smoke in the area first announced around 9:30 p.m., blaze reached about two acres before being contained. Despite its small size, an aspect of the fire that makes it particularly noteworthy is that it occurred in an area that’s popular among outdoor recreators – about a mile northwest of the First Flatiron.

Burning near Artist Point, the blaze was described as a slow-moving fire and didn’t prompt any evacuations. While the fire was announced to be 100 percent contained by 2:15 a.m. on November 19, Artist Point, Artist Point Road, and Boy Scout Trail are set to remain closed at least through Wednesday during mop-up and the process of making sure all hot spots are extinguished…
