Survey reveals 48% of Colorado renters struggle with affordability amid high eviction rates in Denver

DENVER, Colorado — Nearly one-third of Coloradans are struggling to afford basic necessities like housing, healthcare and food, with renters bearing the brunt of the economic burden, according to the 2025 Colorado Health Access Survey released this month.

The survey found that 11.3% of Coloradans had problems paying their mortgage or rent, while 27.5% put off healthcare due to cost and 10.5% didn’t eat enough because they couldn’t afford food. Renters were significantly more impacted, with 48.2% reporting affordability problems compared to 26.7% of homeowners.

Denver has seen nearly 14,000 eviction filings so far this year, slightly below last year’s total of approximately 16,000 filings, according to data from the Community Economic Defense Project.
