The Case of the Masonic Cornerstone

Walking down the front steps of Boulder High School, heading east toward 17th Street and the Circle K, there is a mysterious chiseled piece of stone laid between the bricks of the school. On the stone is engraved the words: “Boulder High School” under that is inscribed: “Laid by the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Colorado A.F. and A.M. September 26 A.D 1936 – A.L. 5936.” This was not the first time I have wondered about the message on the stone; however, it was the first time an impetus of curiosity consumed me. Was there some religious connotation with the words Most Worshipful? What is this “Grand Lodge”, and what does it have to do with our school?

The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Colorado A.F. and A.M is an organization whose name can be derived carefully by looking at the Acronym at the end of the title. A.F. and A.M, meaning “Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.”.

Freemasons, for most, won’t ring a bell, but to those who are aware, it is hard not to associate them with conspiracy. Freemasonry is suspected of conspiracy because of its connection to the Knights Templar, an organization similar to the Illuminati. Their name comes up most often in relation to narratives such as the New World Order, propagated by conspiratorial groups…
