77 chickens reportedly trained for cockfighting to be killed after seizure at Colorado property

A total of 77 roosters and hens said to be trained for cockfighting were seized in Colorado on Thursday morning.

Located at a residential property on East 69th Avenue in Commerce City, the chickens were reportedly due to be transported to Mexico for cockfighting purposes prior to their seizure. Unfortunately, the chickens “will have to be humanely euthanized due to signs of infectious disease and growth hormones,” according to law enforcement. The chickens were mostly being kept in outdoor cages when found.

The Commerce City Police Department says that the investigation into the situation started in November, when a U.S. Postal Inspector requested that police be present during the search of a suspicious parcel. Inside of that package, police say blades were discovered, which can be affixed to a bird’s talons to make them more dangerous in a cockfight…
