CPW Ends Search After Fatal Mountain Lion Attack Near Denver

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has ended its active search related to a fatal mountain lion attack that occurred on the Crosier Mountain Trail in Larimer County, northwest of Denver. After more than 72 hours of searching, officers and houndsmen found no evidence of an additional mountain lion in the area.

According to CPW, necropsies on two subadult mountain lions involved in the incident showed both animals were healthy and tested negative for rabies, with human DNA found on one of the lions. Officials believe the animals were part of a family group and say the decision to euthanize them was made in the interest of public safety, noting that attacks on humans are extremely rare.
